We could use some
We have to wonder if Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has been partaking in some cannabis laced brownies – but then again, Washington, DC has yet to make that legal. But what other reason is behind Arne Duncan’s Department of Education awarding $30 million bucks to the Harmony Schools in Texas, as a “prize" for being one of the winners in the Department’s “Race to the Top,” charter schools competition.
Did Duncan miss the memo about the boys running those schools being investigated on local, state, and federal levels for a bevy of “alleged’ criminal activities and discriminatory practices? Okay, we get that during the 60 Minutes’ Lesley Stahl made those Turkish characters look like the next best thing since sliced bread, but $30 million dollars worth of “sliced bread?” (it must have been the hovercraft demonstration that lured Duncan in --it worked for Lesley).
And to think what those boys at Harmony can do with all of our federal tax dollars. Hmmm, let’s just imagine – perhaps build a transatlantic hovercraft that can ferry all of that money-laundered Tuzuk cash directly to Turkey versus funneling through the Gulen channels via the Poconos. Or perhaps build a few more schools to add to the growing network of 135 nationwide schools – more schools – more Turkish guys – more H1-b visa fraud – more Tuzuk money – more graduate degrees for the Turkish guys, more – more – more.
But no, according to Harmony spokesman and Superintendent Soner Tarim, the boys plan to use the grant money to expand a “project-based learning” pilot program geared toward science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM, courses.” Translation – they are going to bring more Turkish guys in to teach technology, engineering, math, and science.
Tarim continued his grant money bonanza plans in a press release which stated that he was, “Eager to use the grant money to further personalize the way each student uses time, receives support to master essential skills, and deepens understanding of content.” We interpret this to mean that they will hire more Turkish guys to help the students “master essential skills and deepen understanding of content,” right after they hire some translators that can interpret what all of the Turkish guys are trying to teach to our American students with our tax payer grant funds.
As a refresher, this particular group of Gulen-inspired schools, the Harmony School District, has been audited and investigated for spending $186,197 in federal funds, an investigation initiated by the Texas Education Agency and stated that the managing company, Cosmos Foundation had “failed to appropriately administer its grant funds in an efficient and effective manner.”
So what do the feds do to punish these guys? They give them another $30 million in grants to potentially misappropriate.
And let’s not forget the other somewhat important dynamics in this fiasco, the fact that this school district has drawn ongoing criticism for its apparent ties to the Turkish religious leader, Islamist Fetullah Gulen (who lives here in the United States). This same group has also been criticized for” its procurement practices that seem to favor Turkish-run businesses (go figure) and the hiring of significant numbers of foreign, the majority of whom are Turkish males under the age of 40, employeed on H1-B visas,” and paid at a higher prevailing wage than their American counterparts (mysanantonio.com)
But when Celcilia Munoz, the White House Policy Council Director was questioned about the Race to the Top criteria and screening process, she replied that the applicants were “screened with a risk management audit system” (mysanantonio.com).
So we ask -- who invented that particular “risk management audit system,” Bernie Madoff, perhaps?

In December 2012, and through Secretary of Education Arne Duncan's "Race to the Top" contest, Texas' Harmony Schools charter consortium was awarded $30 million in taxpayer funds; despite the fact that these schools are under local and federal investigation for ongoing illegal and discriminatory practices, and have been linked to the exiled Muslim religious leader Fetullah Gulen. This group of 35 charter schools continually discriminates against American educators , administrators, and women. In addition, this network of charter schools supplants American teaching and administrative jobs by hiring lesser qualified foreign H1-B visa applicants who are paid a higher prevailing wage than their American counterparts. In essence by awarding these schools $30 million in taxpayer funds, the federal government, and by proxy Secretary Duncan, have rewarded the illegal activities and discriminatory practices of this group, and continues to penalize the true victims of this ongoing scam, the American public.
